anhinga

Long-necked wading bird

An anhinga is a large waterbird with a long, snaky neck, found in warm American wetlands.

Unlike most waterbirds, its feathers aren't waterproof, so after diving for fish it perches with wings spread to dry—a distinctive silhouette.

Also called snakebird or water turkey.

An anhinga stretched its wings in the morning sun.
