amateur runners
Nonprofessional race participants
Amateur runners are people who run recreationally or competitively without professional status or payment.
The term encompasses everyone from casual joggers to serious club competitors who train rigorously but don't earn a living from the sport: The marathon drew both elite athletes and thousands of amateur runners.
Amateur here emphasizes participation for personal satisfaction rather than financial reward.
