tent meeting
Outdoor religious gathering
A tent meeting is a religious revival service held under a large tent, traditionally associated with evangelical Protestant Christianity in rural America.
Traveling preachers would set up tents for multiday gatherings featuring impassioned sermons, hymn singing, and altar calls.
The format peaked in the 19th and early 20th centuries but persists in some communities: We went to a tent meeting every summer when I was a child.
