alcohol blackout
Drinking-induced amnesia
An alcohol blackout is a gap in memory caused by heavy drinking, during which a person remains conscious and active but forms no lasting memories.
The person may walk, talk, and make decisions, but later has no recollection of events: I must have given him my number during the blackout.
Blackouts result from alcohol disrupting the brain's memory-formation process, not from passing out—a common confusion.
