airline hostess

Cabin crew member

Airline hostess is an older term for a woman employed to attend to passengers on commercial flights, now largely replaced by flight attendant.

The shift reflects broader changes in workplace language—the job is no longer restricted to women, and *hostess* carried gendered expectations about service and appearance that the industry moved away from.

My grandmother was an airline hostess for Pan Am in the 1960s.
