air supremacy

Controlling the skies

Air supremacy is total dominance of the airspace over a combat zone, where one side has eliminated or neutralized enemy air power so completely that opposing aircraft pose no meaningful threat.

It goes beyond air superiority, which merely indicates advantage.

With air supremacy, ground and naval forces operate without fear of attack from above: Coalition forces achieved air supremacy within days.
