abettors

Partners in wrongdoing

Abettors are people who help or encourage someone else to do something, usually something wrong or illegal.

The word carries a strong connotation of complicity in wrongdoing, appearing most often in legal contexts where someone assists in a crime without necessarily committing the act themselves.

The getaway driver was charged as an abettor to the robbery.

The singular abettor is sometimes spelled abetter.
