Year One
Where calendars begin
Year One is a reference point marking the beginning of a new era or system of counting.
In the Gregorian calendar, it designates the year traditionally believed to be Christ's birth—there is no year zero, so 1 BC immediately precedes AD 1.
More broadly, year one signals a fresh start or radical break from the past: After the revolution, they declared it year one of the new republic.
The phrase often carries ideological weight, suggesting history begins anew.
