Horizontal-slat seating design
A ladder back is a chair back with horizontal slats between vertical posts, resembling a ladder.
The design is traditional and sturdy, common in country and colonial furniture: a set of ladder-back dining chairs.
Also used as an adjective: ladder-back rocker.
