Viking graves

Scandinavian burial sites

Viking graves are burial sites of Scandinavian seafarers from roughly the 8th to 11th centuries.

The term usually evokes ship burials, where the dead were interred in vessels along with weapons, jewelry, and sometimes sacrificed animals or servants.

These graves have yielded much of what we know about Norse culture: Archaeologists discovered a Viking grave containing an intact sword.
