graved
Cut into stone
Graved is the past tense of grave, an archaic verb meaning to carve or engrave: The inscription was graved in stone.
The word survives mainly in graven, as in graven image—an idol or carved representation forbidden in some religious traditions.
Separately, graved appears in nautical contexts: to grave a ship's bottom is to clean and coat it with tar.
