Vidalia
Sweet Southern bulb
Vidalia is a variety of sweet onion grown in and around Vidalia, Georgia.
The soil and climate of the region produce onions with unusually high sugar content and mild flavor, making them popular for eating raw: Vidalia onion rings, a Vidalia on my burger.
The name is legally protected—only onions from designated Georgia counties can be sold as Vidalias.
