Twitter mob
Digital angry crowd
A Twitter mob is a swarm of users who pile onto a target with criticism, harassment, or mockery, often in response to a perceived offense.
The behavior combines genuine outrage with performative participation—many join simply because others have.
Twitter mobs can end careers, force apologies, or extract retractions, though their targets range from public figures who've said something objectionable to ordinary people caught in viral moments: The Twitter mob came for her after the tweet resurfaced.
The phenomenon extends to other platforms but retains the name from where it flourished.
