Tulsa Race Massacre
Black Wall Street
The Tulsa Race Massacre was a 1921 attack by white mobs on Greenwood, a prosperous Black neighborhood in Tulsa, Oklahoma, sometimes called "Black Wall Street." Over two days, rioters killed hundreds of Black residents and burned thirty-five blocks to the ground.
The event was systematically omitted from official histories for decades: I never learned about the Tulsa Race Massacre in school.
