Tokyo Rose
Wartime radio traitor
Tokyo Rose was a name American troops in the Pacific gave to English-speaking female broadcasters on Japanese propaganda radio during World War II.
The broadcasts mixed popular music with messages meant to demoralize Allied servicemen.
After the war, the name attached specifically to Iva Toguri D'Aquino, an American citizen convicted of treason—later pardoned.
The term now refers to any propagandist broadcasting to enemy forces.
