The Lady of the Lake
Arthurian water spirit
The Lady of the Lake is a figure from Arthurian legend—an enchantress who dwells in or beneath a lake and bestows the sword Excalibur upon King Arthur.
She appears in various medieval romances, sometimes raising Lancelot and sometimes reclaiming Excalibur at Arthur's death.
The name has been used for literary works, including a narrative poem by Sir Walter Scott.
