political scandal
Public office misconduct
A political scandal is a public revelation of misconduct, corruption, or impropriety involving government officials, elected representatives, or political figures.
Such scandals typically involve abuse of power, financial corruption, sexual misconduct, or cover-ups, and they often lead to resignations, investigations, or criminal charges.
The suffix -gate, from the Watergate scandal that brought down President Nixon, is frequently attached to create names for new political scandals: Bridgegate, Partygate.
