St Patrick
Snake-banishing missionary
St Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, a fifth-century Christian missionary credited with bringing Christianity to the island.
His feast day, March 17th, has become a celebration of Irish culture marked by parades, green clothing, and drinking: The whole city turns out for St Patrick's Day.
Legend holds that he drove the snakes from Ireland.
