St. Elmo's Fire

Eighties ensemble drama

St.

Elmo's fire is a weather phenomenon in which a bright, bluish glow appears at the tips of pointed objects—ship masts, airplane wings, lightning rods, even cattle horns—during thunderstorms.

The glow results from electrical discharge in the atmosphere and poses no danger.

Sailors named it after their patron saint, taking the luminous display as a sign of his protection.
