Seven Hills

Ancient city's terrain

Seven Hills refers most famously to the seven hills upon which ancient Rome was built—Aventine, Caelian, Capitoline, Esquiline, Palatine, Quirinal, and Viminal.

The phrase "city of Seven Hills" became synonymous with Rome itself and later applied to other cities claiming similar geography.

Seven Hills is also a suburb of Rome, cities in Ohio and Australia, and various other place names.

We toured the Seven Hills during our visit to Rome. (Lowercase seven hills describes any grouping of that many hills.)
