Roman bridge
Arched stone span
A Roman bridge is a stone arch bridge built by ancient Romans, many of which still stand and remain in use after two thousand years.
Roman engineers pioneered the semicircular arch design and developed concrete that could set underwater, allowing them to span rivers and gorges across their empire.
The term sometimes applies more broadly to any bridge built in this classical arched style.
The Roman bridge in Córdoba has been crossing the Guadalquivir since the first century.
