Robert Scott
Robert Scott refers most often to Robert Falcon Scott (1868–1912), the British Royal Navy officer and Antarctic explorer who led two expeditions to the South Pole.
His second expedition reached the pole in January 1912, only to find that Roald Amundsen's Norwegian team had arrived first.
Scott and his four companions died on the return journey.
Scott of the Antarctic became a symbol of British heroism and tragic failure.
