Pott's disease

Vertebral TB infection

Pott's disease is tuberculosis of the spine, causing vertebrae to collapse and often resulting in a hunched back.

Named for the 18th-century English surgeon Percivall Pott who described it.

The condition was once common but is now rare in developed countries: X-rays revealed signs of Pott's disease in the ancient mummy's spine.
