Pine Ridge
South Dakota reservation
Pine Ridge is an Oglala Lakota reservation in southwestern South Dakota, one of the largest Native American reservations in the United States.
The name refers both to the reservation and its main town.
Pine Ridge is associated with the 1890 Wounded Knee Massacre and the 1973 occupation by American Indian Movement activists.
The reservation faces severe poverty and has been central to discussions of federal Indian policy.
