Olympic weightlifting
Barbell overhead sport
Olympic weightlifting is a competitive sport in which athletes attempt to lift a barbell loaded with weight plates in two movements: the snatch, where the bar goes from floor to overhead in one motion, and the clean and jerk, a two-stage lift to the shoulders then overhead.
Athletes get three attempts at each lift, with the highest successful weights combined for a total score.
The sport has been part of the modern Olympic Games since 1896.
