Notre Dame Cathedral

Gothic French church

Notre Dame Cathedral is a medieval Catholic church on the Île de la Cité in Paris, one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture.

Built over nearly two centuries beginning in 1163, it features flying buttresses, rose windows, and twin bell towers.

The cathedral serves as a symbol of Paris itself and gained renewed fame through Victor Hugo's novel.

A devastating fire in 2019 destroyed the spire and roof, prompting an international restoration effort.
