Northern English
Mancunian speech patterns
Northern English refers to the dialects and accents of English spoken in the northern regions of England, roughly from the Midlands upward through Yorkshire, Lancashire, and Northumbria.
These varieties share features that distinguish them from southern British English—the short "a" in words like *bath* and *grass*, different vowel sounds, and distinctive vocabulary: She speaks with a Northern English accent.
The term also functions as an adjective describing linguistic or cultural features of the region.
