BBC English
British broadcast standard
BBC English refers to the standard, prestige pronunciation of British English historically associated with BBC broadcasters—also called Received Pronunciation or RP.
From the 1920s through the late 20th century, BBC presenters spoke with this accent, establishing it as a model of "proper" English.
The term now often carries slightly ironic connotations, as the BBC has since embraced regional accents: She put on her BBC English voice for the interview.
