George Romero
George Romero (1940–2017) was an American filmmaker who created the modern zombie genre with *Night of the Living Dead* (1968).
His shambling, flesh-eating undead—and the social commentary woven through his films—established conventions that dominate zombie fiction today.
Directors working in horror often cite Romero as foundational: It's very Romero.
