The Amityville Horror
Long Island haunting
The Amityville Horror is a 1977 book by Jay Anson claiming to document supernatural events experienced by the Lutz family in their Long Island home, where a mass murder had occurred the year before.
The book spawned numerous film adaptations and sequels.
Later investigations cast doubt on the account, suggesting the haunting was fabricated.
The title now evokes sensationalized haunted-house stories generally: another Amityville Horror knockoff.
