*I Am Legend* is a 1954 post-apocalyptic horror novel by Richard Matheson about the last surviving human in a world overrun by vampires.
The story has been adapted into several films, most famously the 2007 version starring Will Smith.
The novel is credited with influencing the modern zombie genre—its premise of a lone survivor against infected masses shaped works from *Night of the Living Dead* to *The Walking Dead*.
