Nazi book burnings
Fascist literary pyres
Nazi book burnings were the organized destruction of books by fire in Nazi Germany, most notably on May 10, 1933, when students and officials burned thousands of works deemed "un-German"—Jewish authors, leftist texts, works on sexuality.
The term now evokes any ideologically motivated destruction of literature or suppression of ideas: Banning these novels from school libraries feels like a Nazi book burning.
