NORAD
Binational aerospace command
NORAD is the North American Aerospace Defense Command, a joint U.S.-Canadian military organization that monitors airspace over North America.
Originally established during the Cold War to detect Soviet bomber and missile attacks, NORAD now tracks aircraft, spacecraft, and potential threats: NORAD scrambled jets to intercept the unidentified aircraft.
The organization is also known for its annual Santa Claus tracking program on Christmas Eve.
