King Saul
King Saul is the first king of Israel according to the Hebrew Bible, anointed by the prophet Samuel around the 11th century BCE.
His reign is marked by military successes against the Philistines but also by disobedience to God, jealousy toward the young David, and eventual madness.
He died by suicide after defeat in battle.
The name appears in discussions of tragic leadership or divine rejection: He went from chosen ruler to King Saul, abandoned by God and tormented by demons.
