Jasmine Revolution
Arab Spring catalyst
The Jasmine Revolution was the 2010–2011 uprising in Tunisia that overthrew President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, sparking the broader Arab Spring across the Middle East and North Africa.
The name comes from Tunisia's national flower.
The revolution began after a street vendor's self-immolation protesting government corruption and spread rapidly through social media and mass demonstrations.
