Japanese saw
Cuts on pull
A Japanese saw cuts on the pull stroke rather than the push stroke typical of Western saws.
This allows thinner blades that remove less material and produce finer cuts.
The two main types are the ryoba, with teeth on both edges for different cuts, and the dozuki, a backsaw for precise joinery.
The Japanese saw glided through the dovetail with almost no effort.
