Japanese giant hornet

Enormous oriental stinger

The Japanese giant hornet is a large wasp native to East Asia, among the world's biggest hornets at roughly two inches long.

Its sting is exceptionally painful and can be fatal to those with allergies or who receive multiple stings.

The species has invaded North America, where it threatens honeybee populations and is sometimes called the "murder hornet."
