Japanese Navy
Nippon maritime force
The Japanese Navy refers to the naval forces of Japan, historically the Imperial Japanese Navy (1868–1945), which became a major Pacific power and fought extensively in World War II.
After Japan's defeat, it was dissolved and replaced by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, a constitutionally defensive force.
The Japanese Navy attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941.
