Husayn ibn Ali
Prophet's grandson, martyred
Husayn ibn Ali was the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, son of Ali and Fatimah, martyred at the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE.
His death is central to Shia Islam, commemorated annually during Ashura with mourning rituals.
For Shia Muslims, Husayn represents righteous resistance against tyranny and injustice: the tragedy of Karbala, Husayn's sacrifice.
