Hippogriff

Winged horse-eagle

A hippogriff is a mythical creature with the front half of an eagle—head, wings, and talons—and the hindquarters of a horse.

The beast appears in Renaissance Italian poetry and later fantasy literature, notably the Harry Potter series.

Since griffins and horses were legendary enemies, the hippogriff symbolizes an impossible union: as rare as a hippogriff.
