Hawkeye Pierce

Hawkeye Pierce is the irreverent Army surgeon played by Alan Alda in the television series *M*A*S*H* (1972–1983), based on an earlier film and novel.

The character—a skilled doctor who copes with the horrors of the Korean War through dark humor and defiance of military authority—became an emblem of antiwar sentiment and sardonic wit.

He's got that Hawkeye Pierce energy—cracking jokes while everything falls apart around him.
