Flatland

World without height

Flatland is the title of Edwin Abbott's 1884 novella, a satirical work set in a two-dimensional world where geometric shapes live as conscious beings.

The book uses its premise to explore social hierarchy and the difficulty of perceiving dimensions beyond one's own experience.

References to Flatland often invoke limited perspective or inability to imagine realities outside familiar frameworks. (Lowercase flatland is level terrain.)
