Escape from Alcatraz
Island jail departure
Escape from Alcatraz refers to the famous 1962 prison break from the federal penitentiary on Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay, when three inmates disappeared through a tunnel and were never found.
The phrase evokes ingenious planning against impossible odds.
It's also the title of a 1979 Clint Eastwood film dramatizing the event: It was like planning our own Escape from Alcatraz just to get out of that lease.
