Dota

Valve's battle arena

Dota is a multiplayer online battle arena video game where two teams of players control powerful characters and compete to destroy each other's base.

Originally a mod for Warcraft III called Defense of the Ancients, it spawned the standalone sequel Dota 2 and helped establish an entire genre.

The game is known for its steep learning curve and thriving esports scene: I've been playing Dota for years and still feel like a beginner.
