Charades

Miming party game

Charades is a parlor game in which players act out words or phrases without speaking while teammates guess.

The performer typically breaks a phrase into syllables, using gestures to indicate word length, number of syllables, and category (book, film, song).

By extension, charades describes any obvious pretense or absurd display: The trial was a charade from the start.
