Captain Planet
Summoned environmental defender
Captain Planet is a fictional superhero from the early 1990s animated television series *Captain Planet and the Planeteers*, summoned when five young people combine their elemental rings.
The character has become shorthand for earnest, sometimes heavy-handed environmentalism: That documentary was very Captain Planet about recycling.
Someone called Captain Planet may be mocked—or praised—for zealous eco-consciousness.
