CVV

Three-digit verification code

CVV stands for card verification value, the three- or four-digit security code printed on credit and debit cards.

It appears on the back of most cards, or on the front for American Express.

Online merchants request the CVV to verify that the buyer has physical possession of the card: Enter your CVV to complete the purchase.

Also called CVC, CVV2, or security code.
