Banu Hashim
Prophet's ancestral tribe
Banu Hashim is the clan of the Quraysh tribe to which the Prophet Muhammad belonged.
The name means "sons of Hashim," referring to Muhammad's great-grandfather.
The clan's lineage carries religious and political significance in Islam—the Hashemite dynasties of Jordan and formerly Iraq claim descent from this line.
The Banu Hashim were among the most respected families in Mecca.
