Alzheimers

Progressive cognitive decline

Alzheimer's is a progressive brain disease that causes memory loss, confusion, and eventually the inability to perform basic functions.

It is the most common cause of dementia, typically affecting people over 65, though early-onset forms exist.

The disease is named after German physician Alois Alzheimer, who first described it in 1906.

In casual usage, people sometimes invoke Alzheimer's loosely to describe ordinary forgetfulness: I'm having an Alzheimer's moment.
