Alpena

Thunder Bay town

Alpena is a city in northeastern Michigan on the shore of Lake Huron, the largest city in that region of the state.

It also names the surrounding county.

The name comes from an Ojibwe word, though its precise meaning is disputed.

We stopped in Alpena on our way up the coast.
